One of the most controversial fees charged by the Ontario government disappeared at the end of the month.
The $30 driving cleaning fee will be waived from April 1, although the driver will still need to bring their old car to test and pay for any necessary repairs.
The Auditor General of Ontario has previously criticized the cost --
Compare it to a tax, saying it requires more money than paying to manage the project.
Gary Wheeler, spokesman for the Ontario Environment Department, said that in order to resolve the complaint, the test fee had dropped from $35 in 2014 to $30.
Wheeler said in an email: \"At that time, the accumulated surplus was $23 million. mail.
\"This number has been steadily declining since then.
We expect the surplus to be eliminated by June 1, 2017.
90 days after canceling the initial test fee.
He said: \"Once the remaining funds are exhausted, the government will reimburse the test fee for driving the cleaning facilities.
\"Canceling this fee will reduce the cost of drivers in Ontario and allow all of us to continue to enjoy the cleaner air benefits brought about by the drive cleaning program,\" he said . \".
Given how many cars are relatively clean now, why do drivers still have to take their vehicle for testing?
\"Clean driving continues to play an important role in protecting the air quality we breathe, and contributes significantly to reducing emissions that lead to poor smoke and air quality.
In 2014 alone, the project blocked smog.
Causing 135,000 vehicles to emit pollutants.
The project reduces smoke emissions.
Causing pollutants about 1-
Third every year
From 1999 to 2012, close to 400,000 tons.
Last year\'s Toronto Vital Signs report also showed that premature deaths and hospital admissions from air pollution have fallen by 23% and 41% respectively since 2004.
\"If something goes wrong, how much repair can the store charge the driver?
\"The cost of repair is determined by the facility and varies depending on the type of repair.
Starting from January 2018, the department will adjust the maintenance fee limit on an annual basis based on the consumer price index.
\"What happens to vehicles that get a conditional pass?
\"The purpose of the conditional pass is to save time for the owner in order to fully repair or scrap the vehicle.
In order to obtain a qualified pass, all emissions must be carried out by the driver-
Cost-related repairs
But no more-
Maintenance cost restrictions.
Repair estimates and actual repairs must be emissions-related;
Maintenance must be carried out by certified maintenance technicians at certified driving cleaning facilities.
\"What about the emissions scandal involving Volkswagen diesel?
\"Ontario will continue to test the affected vehicles for many possible emission failures, as required by the driving cleaning program.
The department has issued an order to the company requesting it to provide a plan detailing the actions to repair affected vehicles in Ontario.
The department expects Volkswagen Canada to take all necessary actions to ensure that affected vehicles in Ontario meet the requirements while minimizing the inconvenience and cost to owners.
