On Wednesday, the Delhi government ordered schools to be closed for the rest of the week as air pollution deteriorated and there was growing criticism of the Indian authorities for failing to address the public health crisis.
Thick smog hangs over Delhi, with pollution indexes in some places reaching 500 points, the worst level in the government\'s air quality index, which measures toxic particles.
\"The air quality in Delhi is deteriorating.
\"At this stage, we cannot harm the health of children,\" said deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia . \" He ordered it to be closed until Sunday.
The Delhi government called the city a \"gas chamber\" after ordering schools for early childhood to close only on Wednesday.
The Indian federal Ministry of Health also recommends that people and children with breathing difficulties stay indoors.
\"People should avoid morning walks or any other strenuous outdoor activity that increases breathing rates,\" the ministry said in a statement Wednesday . \". Anti-
Pollution measures taken by the Delhi state government in recent years include restricting car use and taxing trucks passing through the city, but few have succeeded.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi\'s federal government also urged Delhi and the surrounding northern states to deal with dangerous pollution levels in the capital immediately, even if it meant deploying helicopters to spray water.
Federal Environment Minister Harsh Vardhan wrote on social network Twitter: \"Every possible step needed to solve this situation has been determined and the need now is to put them into action, \"use the label\" DelhiSmog \".
Waldan also urged neighboring Punjab, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh to ban burning on farms considered to be the main cause of air pollution. And a lot of vehicles and dust discharged from the construction site.
The Delhi government has said it has sought to meet with ministers to discuss the burning issue, which has sparked protests by many who believe the measure is too little and too late.
\"No one seems to understand the seriousness of the problem,\" said Dr. Naresh Trehan, chairman and managing director of the Heart Institute in Medanta.
In last November, the city\'s worst pollution in nearly 20 years forced some millions of children to miss classes, while thousands of workers reported illness and people lined up to buy masks.
Residents are also worried this year.
The Indian Medical Association has urged organizers to cancel the biggest race in Delhi scheduled for November.
Protect runners and volunteers.
The Delhi government says emergency measures such as suspension of construction activities will be launched if pollution increases. Long-
Anumita Roychowdhury of the Science and Environment Center in New Delhi said some measures need to be taken, such as improving public transport and banning the use of dirty industrial fuels.
\"Without systematic changes, the scope and impact of emergency measures will be limited,\" she added . \".
Heavy smog caused a big car.
Indian media reported a busy highway on the outskirts of Delhi.
High pollution levels in the capital New Delhi and its suburban Amazon have led to soaring air purifiers.
The Indian Department of Com said.
Amazon said air purifier sales surged 150%, and mask demand increased 260% this year, adding that air purifier sales increased 600% in the past month.
