OTTAWA—
The federal government promised Wednesday to save a tree for $15 million in four years.
The Ontario planting plan was canceled by the Doug Ford government.
The Ontario Forest Association learned after the first budget of the Progressive Conservative government in April that the plan\'s annual budget was about $4.

Federal Environment Minister Catherine McKenna says the project is an important part of the fight against climate change.
\"Planting trees means cleaner air, cleaner water, more animal habitat, and better work,\" she said . \".
McKenna also slammed Ford for a series of other environmental protection measures, including the lifting of the ceiling. and-

McKenna\'s announcement is less than five months from the federal election where the Ontario vote will play a key role.
\"I think it\'s clear that the federal government wants to oppose us in this federal election,\" said Ontario\'s Minister of Natural Resources and Forestry, John yakabsky . \".
\"This is not the first time they have done so.
After the plan was canceled, private investors stepped up funding for the plan, although he declined to say how much money was on the table, yakabsky said.
\"If private businesses are prepared to fill the gap, is this no better than the government putting taxpayers\' money into private property planting trees when private businesses are willing to do so? ” he said.
A spokeswoman for yakabsky said that since 2007, the project has grown only 27 million trees, far below its original target of planting 50 million by 2020.
Forest Ontario said the cancellation of the project would result in unemployment and hinder environmental progress.
CEO Rob Keane said the project would take years to grow seedlings and he welcomed the news of federal funding.
\"We are very, very pleased to be able to work with you to move forward on this project and continue to allow us to do such a long period of work --
\"Long term planning to allow these trees to be planted,\" he said in McKenna\'s statement . \".
\"I\'m afraid without this wheel, we will withdraw from the project and we will stand still.
\"The plan saves up to 90 of the big costs for land owners --
Scale tree planting.
The program started initially as a carbon-fixing program, Keen said, but planting such trees also helps clean air and water, protect the coastline and reduce erosion.
To ensure the sustainability of forests, around the forest coverage required, the current average in southern Ontario is 26, and forest coverage in some areas is as low as 5, Keen said.
