cleaner air may have brought more storms

In the past few decades, the Clean Air Act has helped breathe in many cities in the United States, and it may worsen the weather in some places.
New climate simulations suggest that lowering the level of atmospheric aerosol particles generated by human activity may be the main reason for the recent increase in the frequency of tropical storms in the North Atlantic.
Aerosol levels have been increasing since the beginning of the industrial revolution, but there are also periods in which emissions have stagnated or declined, such as during the Great Depression, world War II and clean air legislation were enacted in Europe and the United States in the 1970 and 1980 s.
Climate simulations show that these low-emission periods eventually increase the frequency of tropical storms.
