A woman who doubled her nose due to a rare situation, received laser treatment and burned her excess skin.
Adrienne Erie, 39, began seclusion in 2013 after the tip of her nose began to turn red and grow bigger.
It continued to grow and became so twisted that she had to open her nostrils with her fingers in order to breathe freely.
It took her three years to be diagnosed with the nose ophyma, a skin disease in which the sweat glands overgrow, causing swelling, red and nodules in the nose.
Then she underwent surgery to burn 3mm of her skin off her nose with a laser.
She says treatment has changed her life.
Adrianna of Seabrook, Texas, said: "I started noticing major changes in 2013.
My nose began to grow thick and bulging.
"Before that, my nose was completely different.
It has reached a point where it is no longer even like a nose.
It feels like a spot with no structure.
"My nose has changed so much that I don't even know myself.
"I'm really sober and worried, but it's hard to get an official diagnosis.
"I think it might have something to do with the rhinoplasty I had in 2008, so I flew to California and ended up being diagnosed there.
"In the evening, I began to struggle with my breath, and I would put my fingers under the tip of my nose so that I could open my nostrils.
"I feel like the person in the documentary Elephant Man.
I think my whole face is growing.
"This has completely changed my opinion of myself.
This made me a hermit.
"I avoided any situation where I might have to meet new people.
"The people I know have never been unkind to me, but I am worried about being stared at or having to meet new friends who don't know my story.
Adrianna said that doctors provide little guidance on the treatment of the disease, which rarely affects women or people under the age of 60.
It was not until 2017 that she saw a clip on daytime television about the rhino that she finally got hope.
She then found Dr. Daniel Friedman from the West Lake Dermatology Clinical Research Center in Austin, Texas, who designed a treatment plan to re-surface the skin with a CO2 laser.
On May 2017, Adriana made a 3mm skin laser on the surface of her nose, and the skin was dark and painful.
"It took two hours for the operation because my doctor said he had to remove twice the skin he expected," she said.
"It smells bad and basically he burned my skin with aggressive laser.
"My doctor was ready for me to know what it would look like when it was done, but I was shocked when I took off my mask and looked at the mirror at home.
"My skin is burnt and oozing.
It is black, green and raw.
"I just blindly believe that someone will burn my skin.
I just pray and pray that it will grow back.
"After his initial surgery, I felt like I could breathe again, the first time in years.
"When I went back to work, I wore the mask for a few weeks.
"There is a risk of infection, but I am also concerned that it is offensive because it was burned at the end of the day and the wound was exposed.
"Adrianna returns to the clinic every week for laser surface treatments that reshape her nose and help regulate the pigment.
The treatment plan also uses fillers to help Adrianna's nose increase clarity and shape.
She will receive her last treatment in May, and she said that this experience has completely changed her outlook on life and self-view. image.
Adrianna said: "From the first day to the present, great and incredible changes have taken place.
"I think the whole experience has changed my life.
I can't even say anything.
"I don't know I can go through this experience of deformation and come out from the other side.
"When I went through it, I was angry that I was influenced by my appearance.
I kept asking myself, "Am I vain ? "
But of course not.
I am very hard on myself.
"I think this experience has taught me about other people's experiences and made me more sensitive and sympathetic to others.
Adrianna says she is anxious about her recovery, but she says her quality of life and self-confidence have increased tenfold.
"It's always possible that this situation will develop again, and that's a huge fear for me," Adrianna said . ".
"But this treatment helped me regain my life and confidence.
For a while, I think I have to live in this situation forever.
"This treatment really changed my life.
