
A woman was killed by a faulty air purifier she purchased on eBay, which sparked a call from her MP today to crack down on counterfeit appliances. Healthy-
Linda Meilong, 65, turned on the device while she was sleeping, but when she was sleeping it exploded.
A survey reported that two years ago, she bought Chinese air purifiers at her home in Swansea.
Linda's MP, Carolyn Harris, warned others today not to buy fake electronics online.
She said: "Linda lost her life because she imported such a small electrical appliance from China, which had huge tragic consequences for her and her family.
It can easily happen to any of us.
"Big brands like Nutribullet, babylisss, GHD, Dyson and Apple are some of the more popular brands for counterfeiters.
"Ms. Harris, a Labor MP in eastern Swansea, warned shoppers not to buy cheap goods.

Detective David Tucker said at a hearing at Swansea Civic Center: "at 12 midnight, Sam sat on his laptop when the smoke alarm sounded.
He could see that there was no fire in the kitchen.
"When he went to Linda's room, he could see the flames and the smoke.
It seems to come from the air purifier where the fire happened.
"There is black smoke.
Sam went to Linda's room and the flames were getting higher and higher.
The woman murdered her husband, then peeled and cooked the body to satisfy the anger of his three children. Colin Philip, the agent's Swansea coroner, recorded the verdict of accidental death and said the test showed that the air purifier was blocked and a key safety function was missing.
After the hearing, Linda's brother, Christopher Meilong, said: "We need to warn people not to buy something they haven't seen before and make sure it's safe.
