Host: Welcome to Dr. Viewpoint with our guestMichael W. Fox. Dr.
Thank you for joining us, Fox. let's get started. Washington, D. C.
My dog kept licking her feet.
Is there anything I can do to make her stop?
Her nails were cut and her feet were clean and even my vet couldn't explain that. Can you help? Dr. Michael W.
Fox: Dogs stomp when they have contact dermatitis or food allergies.
Your vet should check these.
Another reason is boredom.
So I suggest you do a lot of physical exercise and games with your dog.
VA falls: can a cat that is not affectionate but very active and curious become more affectionate?
The cat is about 2 years old. Dr. Michael W.
Fox: some cats, as I highlighted in the book "know your cat", may be as affectionate as a kitten, but they don't enjoy the same when their personality matures
So don't force it.
Accept your cat, accept who she is, and get along with her on her terms, stroking and dressing her up when she wants.
Adams Morgan, Washington: my one-year-old tabby cat often sounds like a poor breath and can sometimes be loud.
When I first found him, I took him to the vet and they gave him antibiotics.
This does not have much impact.
Could this be a serious problem or should I just ignore it? Dr. Michael W.
Fox: your cat is likely to have allergic bronchitis, which may be caused by pollen or by any aerosol used in your home.
I hope you don't smoke.
As you have found, antibiotics will not help.
You need to thoroughly investigate the environment of your cat, use an air purifier or ion generator, and install a micro filter on the air conditioner unit.
Bowie, Maryland: Please! Please!
Give me an alternative treatment for 4 years of chronic ear infection with golden retriever.
I asked him to do an allergy test but did not succeed.
There are no successful systemic antibiotics.
I don't have a few thousand dollars or a success.
Unfortunately, the next step is not very good for dogs and heartbreaking for me. Dr. Michael W.
Fox: chronic ear infections sometimes require corrective surgery to open the external ear canal of the dog.
In my experience, you need to look at the dog's diet when cleaning and antibiotic drugs don't work. Adding a multi-
Add minerals and vitamins, add a teaspoon of flax seed oil, and make dog food with natural ingredients.
Some ear problems seem to have something to do with food allergies and undernutrition.
Lorton, VA: Is there any way to enhance the immune system of puppies? Dr. Michael W.
Fox: The best way to improve the puppy's immune system is a healthy, healthy diet, preferably with organic ingredients.
Good nutrition is the cornerstone of health, plus regular exercise, love and understanding.
Healthy puppies do not need special herbal supplements like echin chrysanthemum to enhance the immune system.
Avoid stress, such as noisy and rude children, and note that the immune system of the puppy will weaken for a period of time after the puppy has been vaccinated. Washington, D. C.
: I have 3 cats: 18-year-
8-year-old female
Old woman 2-year-old male. . . .
All indoors.
Outdoor activities, healthy and "get along ". "The 8-and 2-year-
But I am worried that young men seem to be lonely and need a young companion to give full play-time. . . should I?
Four cats may be a bit more. . . . Thanks! Dr. Michael W.
Fox: in some cat families, two cats form a strong bond to let the third cat leave as you have experienced.
Sometimes getting an extra cat in can cause conflict in the social fabric that has developed.
So be cautious and consider adopting a healthy kitten, hoping it will connect with young newcomers so you will have a happy family of four cats.
Remember to encourage two cats to play together and protect the new cat when first introduced as there will be some sniffs, brushes and hiss. Reston, VA:Dr.
Fox, can you explain the possible impact of killing a cat?
I have heard that death affects the cat's skeletal system over time. Thanks! Dr. Michael W.
Condemnation of cats is a serious issue of animal welfare and ethics.
This process is similar to removing your fingertips because cats not only scratch with their claws, but also do fine operations with their claws, which are very sensitive accessories.
I can train the cat to use scratches instead of having the cat catch the furniture or take his paw off and I will take the furniture off.
VA Alexander: My dog is 15 years old, part elkhound in Norway and part Labrador in black.
Overall he is healthy, but since the heat wave hit the Washington area, he has not eaten his daily food, and occasionally every two or three days, when he goes out for a walk, he will be sleepy.
Should we care about his health?
Also, since he is an "old man", should we give him a special diet with fortified vitamins?
We fed him dry food for Dr. "inactive dog"Michael W.
Fox: your old male dog should not eat.
Like older people, it is critical to maintain a good diet intake of nutritious foods on a regular basis, otherwise there will be very serious complications.
When was the last time he went to the vet?
I will double check his heart and circulation system and take him out in the morning and evening in hot weather to avoid strenuous exercise.
Old dogs should not be forced to be active in hot weather.
Ms. merridian: What is the best thing I can do to extend my dog's life? Dr. Michael W.
Fox: The best thing you can do to extend the life of a dog is to embrace and practice the following basic animal rights, which means the responsibility of the owner: proper nutrition;
Understand correctly;
Suitable environment;
Correct veterinary care.
For more details, please check out my books know your dog and heal the touch.
Warning to all dog and cat owners: Discuss with your vet the possible risks associated with the annual intensive vaccination that is still widely recommended, as more and more people agree, in order to prevent many adult animals from being vaccinated only once every three years, a combination of vaccines given at the same time can be avoided.
How do you know if your puppy has bugs?
If the dog gets a worm, can they still get the worm? Dr. Michael W.
Fox: even if the bitch is repelled during pregnancy, the puppy may still have worms or be infected in the first few weeks of birth.
The vet can take stool samples from your puppy and check if it has worm eggs, thus discovering these internal parasites.
It is important to check whether puppies and kittens have these parasites because they cause serious health problems for people, especially children.
VA Falls Church: Why is my bird so noisy?
When we got them for the first time, they were just sitting in cages and only talking when they were hungry.
They won't shut up now. Dr. Michael W.
Fox: I think if I lived in a cage all my life, I would either be silent or shake my head.
But seriously, your birds may be enjoying life. . .
You don't say anything about species. . .
This is the way they communicate with each other and express their nature.
If they have more to do with their own lives, they may spend less time in vocal activity.
Do they have a room to fly around or do they have a big flying cage?
The boredom of the bird in the cage can cause various behavioral problems, pulling feathers and self
Cutting is a common overstatement, especially when it comes to loneliness and loneliness.
Try to give your bird more freedom and new objects to manipulate and investigate.
Turning on the radio or TV can also help enrich their environment when you leave them.
Dogs and cats are the same, and their human companions are not working all day long.
Manassas, Virginia: We have a 6-month-
Labrador mix.
She was calm, but it was hard for us to keep her away from the kitchen and to keep her out of cat food and cat shit.
How can I stop her from doing these things? Dr. Michael W.
Fox: cats can skip the expandable doors that people have set up to get their children and puppies out of certain rooms.
So I suggest you train the cat to either jump over or crawl under the expandable gate and go to her bin.
Cats like to put bins in a quiet, low place
Traffic area of the house.
You might want to consider having your cat eat on the kitchen counter where the dog can't get the food.
In the end, your puppy should grow up because he wants to eat snacks from the bin.
But cat food is always a temptation.
Hi, I have two mini poodles--
A man and a woman.
They are about two years apart. . .
Fun and smart, good companions.
But they are like brothers and sisters, competitors, but they can be fun together.
Problem: older male dogs become more aggressive. . .
In fact, he had already wounded the young bitch to the point where she did not eat. . .
Until late at night, when the dog can't see.
He growled at her on purpose.
How can I modify his behavior?
I used him as a "top" dog. . .
Feed him first, pet him first. . . .
Sometimes worry.
Any suggestions? Dr. Michael W.
Fox: like some children, some dogs become bullies. it's amazing.
You need to intervene and behave like the alpha wolf in the group.
Whenever an older male dog shows any attack on a young bitch, you should loudly and verbally condemn him "no, Bad Dog" or pick him up and rest in another room, either in the dog crate.
Alternatively, you can shake him with the back of your neck and hold him down until he gives in to you.
You may want to wear protective gloves because he may protest when you become an alpha wolf.
He should learn to be more chivalrous and act like a good man. mannered dog.
I think he has been overindulged by you and is a dog criminal who needs behavior change!
Los Angeles, California: where can I adopt pets? Dr. Michael W.
Fox: you can adopt a pet at a local shelter or humane society.
Please check out our website petcity.
Com through and some clues to the rescue department.
Also be aware of an upcoming article by Mary Jane Chesky about what is suitable for my pet?
We are very sensitive in petcity.
Wholesale business trade on puppy factories and pets and exotic animals.
When it comes to our relationship with all living things, we seek to connect those who care and those who care about all areas, business, education, entertainment and inspiring.
I have a cute dog who is three years old.
Will she still benefit from obeying the school? Or is she considered "old dog" for the sake of "New Tricks "? Dr. Michael W.
Fox: an old dog will never be old enough to learn new tricks. of course, there is a three-year-old dog. year-
The old dog is too old to be educated.
I firmly believe that all dogs should receive some basic training and Pet City.
Com will provide the necessary basis and clues in this field.
There are some very good and some very bad dog trainers who will teach your dog or take your dog to "train it ".
"It's best to go to class with your dog and teach your dog the basics of courtesy and simple obedience that will make your dog a better life companion.
Tx: my 15-year-
The old dog has a lot to eat, but more to eat. stop.
At her age, I didn't want to make her suffer because I didn't give her food, but I was worried about obesity.
What can I give her to fill her weight but not pack it?
She hates dog food. Dr. Michael W.
Fox: some dogs beg for attention.
I have trained my children to wait until I finish eating and then they always take a bite from my desk.
If your dog is very hungry, she may have a serious lack of nutrition, which may be caused by a low cal, and in order to lose weight, your poor dog has a high fiber diet.
So your dog needs some high quality food and I will supplement her diet with cooked whole food
Cereal rice, pasta, scrambled eggs, cheese, etc.
The vet should also have a thorough physical examination.
Our 14-year-old is 3.
The upper half of one of her big canine teeth fell off and her legs were fragile but very friendly.
Our vet said look at her and see if she's going to be in pain.
He said then he had to pull out her teeth, which could break her chin, but she was too fragile to fall asleep for surgery.
Is there anything that can be done more humanly?
Will this tooth become toothless?
Thank you very much. -Brion Dr. Michael W.
Fox: Your dog is very old and has a high risk of surgery.
It can be very painful for dogs to break or break their teeth, and your vet can open a suitable painkillers to help your dog solve the tooth problem.
I will not choose surgery.
Surprisingly, some dogs with severely damaged teeth like you seem to have no pain while eating.
Teeth may die, abscess may occur, and can be treated conservatively with antibiotics.
VA Alexander: Our 6-year-old male Labrador has started a seizure.
It happens about once a month.
He caught (trembling, fell) for about 5 minutes.
His stool is not out of control, but occasionally drops some urine.
Vet wantes wants to give him phenobarbital, but we don't want to use such a strong drug for a dog with less frequent seizures than a young one.
Can we control this?
Any other options? Dr. Michael W.
Fox: seizures can be difficult to control, and sometimes phenomenon arbitration is the only solution.
Some dogs perform well on either Bromo potassium or primidone.
I heard that the high fat diet has achieved some success.
Your dog has a third very high fat burger in the daily food.
Other dogs seem to do better with the natural whole food, organic diet you make yourself.
You should avoid putting your dog in an environment that can lead to stress and over-excitement, and think twice about getting him vaccinated.
Dr. VA Charlottsville
Fox, my heart is heavy about your problem.
My 11-year-old male cat has thyroid dysfunction.
He had surgery to remove one side last summer, but both were inflamed so there was no benefit.
I can't let him eat his barazole tablets every day.
Even the vet couldn't swallow him.
I 've called RadioCat but they want $1,200 to treat him and I just don't have it as a single mother with a very limited income. He's thin. . . so thin.
I don't want to lose him yet.
What can I do to try to improve the quality of his beautiful little life and when will I give up fighting?
He is too thin. . . .
Any suggestions will be helpful. Dr. Michael W.
Fox: If you don't have trouble dealing with your cat, your vet should give you a syringe or cat pill Poole so that you can get his bazol pill down.
Don't be afraid to try. . .
Crush the pill, make an emulsion with milk or butter, and gently inject it to the back of the cat's throat.
The disease is the most painful and common, and I hope future veterinary studies will find ways to prevent it.
VA Alexander: 1-of our new adoption-yr-
The old German Shepherd seems to hate very small dogs and very old dogs.
She was aggressive with them.
However, she does get along well with other dogs as big as her.
Is there a psychological reason behind this, if not at least less aggressive, what can we do to make it easier for her to accept these reasons? Dr. Michael W.
Fox: Your dog is still young and will not mature again.
Between 1/2 and two years
So at this point in time you have to help shape her personality and learn basic obedience training to curb her attack on old dogs and puppies.
When she shows aggressive intentions, you should try to keep her away, such as calling her name and following her with a belt to run after the ball or the Frisbee to distract her.
You have to always tie her to the Belt and teach her to sit there and stay there command with voice control, you should be able to suppress her aggression in front of a very small, very old dog.
You need to be sure if it's out of fear or if you want to dominate.
Under proper control, even putting a gun on if you think it is necessary to get her close to the dog that causes this bad behavior will eventually lead to a min reduction.
Therefore, be patient and be mindful of the serious consequences that may arise from her failure to be properly restricted during this critical training period.
Port of Los Angeles, Washington, D.
Fox, we adopted a Chihuahua who had a problem with hair loss for a while.
We replaced his food with better quality and started feeding him meat and food supplements (oil) but most of his tops and light gray fur had been on the skin.
He didn't scratch too much and didn't look nervous or depressed.
In addition to completely bare hair shedding and skin peeling, he seems to have a good character and good health;
He is alert, friendly, energetic and loving. Dr. Michael W.
Fox: one of the most common reasons dogs have dry fur, flaky skin and a large amount of shedding is because their diet lacks essential fatty acids.
I recommend 30-
A teaspoon of organic flax seed oil or red flower oil is mixed with food every day.
It's also good to eat a scrambled egg once in a while. Dr. Michael W.
Fox: I'm glad to answer many of your questions and hope I can answer all of them.
