this company wants to recycle carbon dioxide from the atmosphere - commercial air purifier
We recycle cans and clothes, yes, we even recycle bras and old artificial limbs.
But if you can recycle some fossil fuel, carbon dioxide (CO2)
Is this from coal, oil and gas?
Carbon Engineering in Canada is powering a plant that is expected to achieve this goal.
Their first carbon capture plant will start producing recycled carbon dioxide next month.
The pilot plant in northern Vancouver works like a huge CO2 air purifier: The air is captured from the atmosphere, through "scammers" and carbon dioxide, it takes up only a small part of the air and is extracted by chemical capture solution.
Jeff Holmes of Carbon Engineering says it's like "a huge factory captures your emissions after you 've discharged" and he's been working hard to make this plant a reality for more than five years.
When the factory kicked the air out at the other end, the air was "purified" by carbon dioxide: it contained the fifth of the original carbon dioxide. The other four-
The five carbon dioxide extracted from the air is then processed to produce a concentrated stream of carbon dioxide, the final product of pure carbon dioxide that can be sold and re-producedused.
Other forms of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere have been recycled daily through the carbon cycle.
Literally, plants, trees and humans breathe in oxygen and breathe out carbon dioxide.
Carbon dioxide is converted back into plants and absorbed into the earth.
A complete recycling system.
Add a lot of carbon dioxide from fossil fuels that can run cars and planes, plug into the grid, and use electricity to make everything from steel to concrete to paper, mess up that system-
The amount of carbon dioxide trapped in the atmosphere has been soaring.
"The growth of carbon dioxide accumulation in the atmosphere over time has led to the climate problem we are seeing today," said Adrian colos, CEO of Carbon Engineering.
The carbon engineering plant is an attempt to bring the fossil fuel cycle into a more complete cycle
Recycling system for the production of finished products: concentrated pure co2, which can be used as feed
Inventory of gas or diesel, moving co2 back from the tail pipe to the fuel tank.
"This fuel is not from the ground, but from the air," Holmes said . ".
While there are already a handful of carbon capture plants running around the world, the carbon engineering company's plant is the first to have nothing to do with combating carbon dioxide emissions from specific industries, like a huge pile of smoke or industrial airflow.
"We will never be able to remove all carbon dioxide from the atmosphere," Holmes said . ".
"But we can remove a small amount of carbon dioxide, and we can reduce the amount of carbon dioxide we emit to the atmosphere every year.
"The plant uses natural gas-every ton of carbon dioxide that their plant processes from the air, and they are also capturing and processing half a ton of carbon dioxide that they emit.
Klaus Lachner, director of the negative carbon emissions Center at Arizona State University, has been working in the field of carbon capture for about 20 years.
He is building resin and artificial trees to capture carbon dioxide more passively than the new plant of Carbon Engineering.
"We all need to move forward," Lackner said . " He added that it is important to try a variety of different methods of carbon capture, so that "people feel more comfortable when they see it working.
The technology itself "won't solve the climate problem," Lackner said, but he hopes that a variety of different carbon capture solutions will help scientists in the industry continue to experiment and reduce the cost of new technologies.
Assuming their small pilot plant works well in the next six months, Carbon Engineering wants to achieve full development
Scale and business-
The supported plant can capture 1,000,000 tons of carbon dioxide per year, just like recycling the carbon dioxide emitted by 300,000 cars on the road.
The story is 2015 correct. -a full-
Commercial plants of scale will capture 1,000,000 tons of carbon dioxide instead of 100,000 tons.
