We are used to plastic packaging from food to medicine to toys.
Businesses like it because it is light weight, can reduce the cost of transportation, can form anything. Our health-
The medical system relies on it for pipes, IV bags, medical equipment, etc.
When the warm weather finally arrives, you will protect your brain with a lightweight plastic bike helmet.
I was inspired to follow the lead of Susan frienker, author of plastic: a toxic love story, to write down every plastic I met during the day --
Personal care products, food packaging, spandex that makes my clothes comfortable, bread bag closure, car parts, and even small stickers on organic fruits are all plastic.
My glasses. My electronics.
Plastic everywhere.
The same is true of plastic waste.
National Geographic's June 2018 issue reported that production of all plastics has accounted for since 2000.
2 billion tons have been produced since the 1950s.
0. 89 billion tons have become waste.
8 million tons end up falling into the ocean every year.
Any internet search will see endless images of plastic islands in the Pacific Ocean, plastic-
Covered beaches, bodies of animals filled with plastic bellies, and dolphins trapped in old fishing nets.
And invisible plastic.
Micro plastic-
They are mistaken for food by fish, no difference from sand on the beach.
If you think bottled water is safe, you might consider the State University of New York (SUNY)
In a study by Fredonia, "93% of bottled water showed signs of micro-plastic contamination.
"Plastic is an evil product of fossil fuels made of waste from the natural gas and oil industries (such as ethylene, propylene and propylene.
Additives are required in order to achieve the required quality, such as flexibility or rigidity.
Some additives, such as phthalate and DEHP, are carcinogens and hormone disruptors that can be dissolved from plastics.
With thousands of potential additives, it is impossible to measure the overall impact on human and environmental health.
Waterloo area accepts all plastics numbered 1 to 7 in your blue box.
This includes clean, hard plastic items for food, beverages, cleaning, pet and personal care products;
Clean the plastic bag from milk, bread, groceries, fruits and vegetables and pack it together in the bag;

From chips, cereal, cookies)
Or stretch the packaging plastic.
In the recycling center of the area, after the roadside classification, the obvious pollutants are pulled out by hand, and the rest are discharged by mechanical classification, including the hole piercing device, liquid, optical sorter and magnet, to remove metal pollution.
Then manually separate the plastic on the sorting line.
This is crucial because each plastic has a different market.
The crushed and packaged plastic is then transported to multiple processors for washing and granulator and sold to the manufacturer for reuse.
It should be noted here that there is a market for all collected plastics in the region, especially since China no longer accepts scrap plastics in the world.

The coordinator for the Waterloo area reported that only ten per cent of the blue box contents had entered the landfill.
