stockli home appliance closes after 54 years - home appliance manufacturer
More than half a century later, the family-owned Stockley appliance company closed down.
John Stoke opened in 1961 from his Sunnyvale home and became one of the first Maytag repairmen in Grand Victoria.
When his wife Irene was in charge of the account and set up a service phone, he also sold the parts.
Daughter Debbie menot said on Tuesday that the Stockley family had established a service heritage as the store began selling the last stock.
The couple has died, their son Wayne has died, and he works for the company.
"My dad was working from morning till night," said Minot, who bought the company in 1997 with his husband Willie.
Debbie, 57, will retire with Willie.
She is looking forward to playing the bridge and traveling.
John and Irene from Province
They moved to Prince George for a while and then went to Vancouver, where John took electrician classes and paved the way for a Maytag repairman.
Mineault said that when her father was not on the road, he repaired the car at home and anything else that needed to be repaired.
He also provides services for commercial laundry equipment.
In 1983, the first Stockley retail store operating Maytag products opened in Byrne Seder square.
"They are proud of it," said Mineault . ".
"They are very happy to work and their life is great.
"Mineault obviously likes people's shops.
She is friendly, cheerful and energetic.
Customers can get answers to questions about old and new appliances.
Stockli's employees include retail, delivery and service personnel.
Over the years, the business has been relocated and eventually settled at 450 Burnside Road. East.
In order to prepare for the checkout, the goods began to be sold this month.
Mineault says the lansdownne appliance Gallery on Douglas Street will take over Stockley's warranty and service phone.
Debbie and Willie run a related company, Stockley laundry equipment, which rents washing machines and dryers for apartment buildings.
Stockley has 1,500 square feet of retail space and another 5,000 square feet of retail space in an affiliated warehouse.
The property will be sold, Minot said.
This is a real family business.
After working in a bank for ten years, Mineault joined the company in 1986.
Her two adult children are on a different path, but they are all doing business.
Wayne's daughter, Cassandra Stockley, also works in retail.
When Mineault joined the family business, her parents made some time to travel by themselves.
Even if Debbie and Willie bought the company, John and Irene were still active.
She remembers her father as a "man who can't sit still ".
"The store expanded beyond the Maytag appliance family and added Whirlpool, Jenn-
Air and kitchen.
Mineault says business has become more challenging since her parents first opened one of the few home appliance stores in the capital region.
Nowadays, the competition is increasingly fierce, and the large chain stores occupy the dominant position in the market.
"It's harder for small businesses because people still have the illusion that they get better deals when they go to big companies --
"Said Mineault.
"Our price is just as good.
