Some First World perspective - top electric toothbrush
Visitors to our farm often say it must be lovely to live so far from the road.
Imagine the tranquility and tranquility of a family away from the hustle and bustle of city life.
Of course, these tourists only pass by in summer.
On Saturday night, the farm was full of big trees, and the peace was shattered.
A tractor, a chainsaw and two and a half hours of hard work arrived on the road on Sunday morning.
I don't know how long the power will go off.
It's been three days and there's no sign of light, heat or water in this Hood.
Power outages are never fun, but on the farm, the intensity of the power outage has reached a whole new level.
Water is a big problem.
The day before the ice storm I was full of stock tanks, but if we couldn't get juice quickly, I would throw a tank behind the pickup truck, refuel at the nearest gas station and water the livestock with barrels.
Of course, it's getting cold to prove that God has a sense of humor.
The water tank, the water line and the bucket heater are all electric.
In the cold days, we may be frozen to solid in the winter.
All but two things can be frustrating.
First of all, the talk show host on the radio just told me that things are not that bad.
There was no power cut in his apartment. Good to know.
Second, I know these are just the problems of the first world.
The food in my fridge has undoubtedly turned into some form of toxic waste, but the truth is that I will not miss a meal.
It's half a lane-
A mile of trees and ice was destroyed on Sunday, but I had a tractor and a chainsaw, so it was just a small thing.
No matter how cold the weather is, we will find a way to water the horse.
Did it, did it.
People in the third world don't have John Deere tractors and refrigerators full of food and horses.
They never have power in many places.
In the face of reality, we live in a soft life of privilege that most people in the world can't even imagine.
The trouble is, we don't know.
Therefore, we have experienced the life of losing Internet access and the fear of electric toothbrushes slowly losing their charging.
Power outages of any duration are compared to the end of the world.
Every day, we are seriously debating such fascinating first-world issues as whether school administrators have the right to pick out children's lunches and look for remnants of a glimmer of life.
The ultimate problem of the first world;
How to deal with plastic bags?
We are destroyed by everyday dilemmas, such as coordinating the dog walker's schedule with children's dance classes.
There is no particular problem with these disturbances.
Hell, I need some electricity now.
But our collective lack of insight makes us confuse inconvenience with real pain.
A few years ago, I spent some time in some of the poorest parts of the world.
Whenever there is the first world problem in my life, I try to remember how lucky I am.
When you take the time to count your blessings, you will be surprised how wonderful life will be.
At this time of year, people make all kinds of decisions and become smarter, more organized, thinner or better in other forms.
But it might be better to get a little perspective and a smarter approach.
Footnote: my strength recovered on Christmas Eve.
Thanks to all the staff who brought us light and heat during Christmas.
