Police use virtual 'cage' to corral malware and probe cybercrime evidence - what's the best electric toothbrush 2016

Due to limited law enforcement resources for investigating increasingly serious cybercrime, Metropolitan Police has introduced expertise to support its digital investigations.
There are 12 regional units in the UK to combat organized cyber crime, many of which have their own trained experts, but cyber crime activities are very common and it is a challenge to investigate before criminals escape.

To address this, Falcon, Met's cyber crime unit, has begun using the technology originally developed at the University of Cambridge and is now developed by a company called Bromium.

Ian Pratt's founder and president said: "Our approach to cybersecurity is very different from all other companies.
"For every task you perform on the machine, for every document you open, every website you go to, in fact, we will create a virtual machine to run a specific task, so that, if anything bad happens, it is included in that VM.
"As a scholar, Mr. Pratt led the Cambridge system research group for most of the decade and started the group's work on the Xen hypervisor, A technology that allows computer hardware to support multiple operating systems at the same time.
The Xen on which Bromium is based is used to virtualize the computing environment, so that if users accidentally let any malicious processes execute, they do not propagate and infect the rest of the machine.
It can take months to analyze malware in a computer lab, however, by using Bromium, police experts are able to allow it to execute in an isolated environment and track its behavior in a real environmenttime.
