Investigators with the Broward County Sheriff said that the 37-year-old Gerson had been packing gifts on Christmas Eve and used a massager to relieve neck pain.
Her husband found her unconscious lying on the bedroom floor of their home in Parkland, a suburb of Fort Lauderdale, and called the paramedics who announced her death.
The caregiver found a neck massager on the floor next to the woman.
Investigators believe that the masseuse wrapped around her necklace and tightened it, causing her to lose consciousness and stop breathing.
A sheriff's spokesman said her death was considered accidental, but the homicide investigators concealed details of the massage equipment before the investigation was completed. -
