Residents of Morwell are getting a vacuum cleaner with a filter that can collect tiny particles in an attempt to clean up the ash that fell from a fire in the Hazlewood mine.
The vacuum cleaner purchased by CFA will be loaned to the community through a variety of networks, such as the Movel neighborhood home.
Wiping your fingers on any surface of Mavel will reveal how much ash has fallen from the air as the fire at the Hazlewood mine continues to burn.
"I think people are actually flooded with dust and particles in the house.
Every day, when they wake up, they see a pile of dusty coal.
"People are trying to do their best to clean up and build on that.
It's very important that we see them coming together to support each other, "said Tracie Lund, coordinator of the Movel neighborhood home.
Through the reservation system, the vacuum cleaner will lend free of charge from a nearby house, and residents are advised to call 5134 5488 or visit the Facebook page of the center.
The HEPA or high efficiency particle absorption filter in the rented vacuum cleaner is able to pick up small particles, and the vacuum cleaner without the filter cannot capture it.
"The HEPA filter has different levels and each level talks about the Micron it can filter.
So now it's said that Movel's air drops to the first point, which is very small, "said Eugene Lin, who works at a local appliance retailer that sells vacuum cleaners.
He said the store's air purifier sales have increased as people try to filter out fine particles of ash in the air before settling at home.
