A San Francisco start-up raised $25 million to expand the manufacture of air purifiers that not only capture allergens and contaminants ---
It will destroy them.
With the B-series funding, Molekule has received more than $38 million since its inception in 2014.
The most recent round of financing was led by the Foundry Group, including cross-financing by early investors, Uncork Capital and Translink Capital.
Molekule's air purifier uses light-induced electro-chemical reactions to break down allergens in bacteria, mold and other air, including some allergens that are too small to capture for traditional air filters.
The filters it uses are coated with catalysts developed by the company and must be replaced every six months.
The $799 system is sold to consumers, and the filter costs $129 a year.
