How to Make Wet Felted Baby Booties - heavy duty boot dryer
Regarding this project, this project is designed to be used by beginners and more advanced Feltmaker.
Merino wool is a great choice for short boots as wool felt is easy and soft enough to be close to the skin of a child.
Items requiring a small amount of merino wool yarn (
Merino wool woollen felt is perfect for small projects like this designed to help those who have just come into contact with the felt.
Bootie templates or plastic extrusion bottles or spray washing liquid to boil hot blisters-
Packaging bamboo mat small curtain net towel for soaking excess water Palm Sander (Not necessary -
But it can be useful because it speeds up the whole process)
Heavy plastic thickness sheet (
If electric sander is used.
Before you start!
Copy the template from the chart that comes with this tutorial.
Cut the template using a piece of bubble-
Wrap with tape or fix the hard cardboard on the edge with tape.
I used an old plastic folder for the purposes of this tutorial.
However, removing them from the boots is more difficult than the foam --
The packaging template will be.
Still, it offers a clean and tidy edge with no creases.
The booties consist of 8 layers of merino wool fiber, each with 4 layers of thin booties on each side of the template.
For simplicity, the same color can be repeated throughout the project, or you can use any color of your choice, or even a mixture of hand-dyed merino wool.
I have attached a picture of a pair of regular red booties below.
These are made using the same template and are shown here purely as an example.
For the purposes of this tutorial, I used a mixture of multiple colors.
The fibers should be placed 90 degrees in the first layer.
If you want to have a very smooth surface on your boots, use the bottom layer as your top layer and use the first layer as a decorative layer, which encourages felt processing.
Turn the boots over as soon as you delete the template.
When you make a cut for the cuffs, all the layers will be displayed in the final cut.
If you want the cuffs to be a color in the whole layer, use only one color.
Be creative and have fun with your colors.
Experiment with stripes or spots.
Wet and thin fibers can be used to make eyes, nose and mouth.
Try using strange silk dotted with a little bit of wool.
On any silk decoration you use, small wool fiber slices should be placed.
Wool fiber will help to embed silk fiber into wool.
Silk always gives a lovely glow to the surface of any felt.
Use the moisture-proof surface to put the towel on the moisture-proof surface to work.
Next, put down the bamboo mat or towel or you can use a piece of foam --
Wrap the smooth side up and place the template on the mat or bubble
Summary first lay the fibers as shown in the video tutorial above, first lay the fibers in one direction, then keep them 90 degrees with the previous layer on each subsequent layer.
Place a small piece of curtain mesh on the wool and fold the fiber over the fiber outside the template with hot soapy water.
Keep clear and tight on the edge of the template.
This will give the whole project a nice clean edge.
Four layers use fiber in your chosen color to repeat the same process for each layer once you have completed all four layers, place the whole project in the center of a piece of bubblewrap.
The smooth side should be on top.
If you are going to use an electric sander, cover it with a thick piece of plastic.
If you intend to use an electric sander, place a heavy part in the whole project with an electric palm pad as shown in these images.
Please read these safety instructions carefully. Heavy-duty plastics should be large enough to ensure there is no risk of any water touching the Sander.
You can choose to make it in a more traditional way.
If you are not going to use an electric sander in this project, simply put a plastic bag on your hands and rub the bubbleswrap well.
Use gentle pressure at first, often turning and rolling items.
It takes about ten minutes to reach the felting stage on each side.
You should be able to see the fibers when they start to tighten.
Add more hot soapy water as needed until you reach the shrink test phase.
This is when you can no longer grab any fiber between the two fingers.
Please look at the picture.
The shrink test does a shrink test to see if the item is ready for cutting.
If individual fibers still drift, you can pull away from each other and continue to massage on both sides for a few minutes.
Continue to use hot soapy water to further promote the shrinkage process.
Using bamboo blind or MatThe Bamboo Pad or blind makes Fulin very easy.
Keep changing the direction of your scrolling project.
You will notice that the fibers shrink very quickly.
The result of using bamboo pads is much faster than using a piece of foamwrap!
Make sure you don't delete the template too quickly.
If you scroll the cut booties without a template, the fibers sometimes feel together, which makes it difficult for you to separate the walls of the booties from other booties.
The template can only be removed if you are sure that the fiber is properly glued together.
If you find that you shrink your boots too tightly, stretch your fingers with some hot water.
Add boiling water, then take out the template in cold water and put the boots in a bowl of boiling hot water.
Leave for a few seconds and rinse under cold water.
Repeat these two times to impact the fiber.
This will encourage them to scale down further.
Cut the cuff with sharp scissors along the creases of each boot.
Each cut should be about 3. 5cm.
Turn over both boots and sprinkle some hot soapy water.
If there are wrinkles, gently massage with your fingers.
You can now decide which side you want to use on the right side of your boot.
Decorative boots. The edge of the cut should be rolled between the thumb and the index finger with soap warm water to help finish.
Put some foam wrap in the boots and let them dry.
You may want to cut into the boots further and make a pair of lace-up boots with no cuffs.
Use the awl to make six holes for the laces or finish your booties with a rope.
Small pompoms and beads can be attached to the laces.
