The days when cars can only travel 100,000 miles have passed.
This age is now considered the tip of the iceberg, breakingin period.
I am a big advocate of used cars.
I believe that, with proper care, an old car can be as reliable as any car that has just been launched from a dealer batch.
However, the car will only be as reliable as it was made by its owner, and there are a lot of people who don't know anything about car repair and maintenance.
This article is for those people and is a painless fix that you can do in an afternoon or two.
All of this is basic. it-yourself (DIY)
Work, you don't need much experience in repairing a car to do the work. Oil Change (
Cost: About $25)
You know it will come and it will be listed first as it is the most important maintenance project you can do in your car.
Changing oil will extend the life of your car, so you should always change oil on time.
The old myth of needing oil change every 3 months or 3,000 miles is not true.
At some point it's accurate, but modern cars, as well as the oil of the special additives we put into it, are better designed.
However, it is recommended that you change oil frequently.
A lot of people are going to 10,000 now.
15,000 miles between oil changes.
Even if this is the time interval specified in the owner's manual, most professional mechanics recommend not to walk 10,000 miles between changes.
A better choice is 5,000 miles (
Or if you don't drive much, about 5 months)
Between changes.
Some people seem to think they are giving in to the marketing hype of some oil companies, but I don't think so.
Oil is cheap and easy to replace.
Seriously, check out some YouTube videos and see how fast it can be done.
Personally, I 'd rather "waste" $25 right now to keep my engine running smoothly than buy a new engine for $5000 later, it's all because I'm too lazy to spend a few bucks and 20 minutes on Saturday afternoon. Air Filter (
Cost: About $15)
Air filters are often overlooked in car repairs.
Also, they may feel frustrated because there is a lot of error messages around them.
There are some car enthusiasts who will immediately spend $60 to buy the K & N Brand air filter, or more to buy a special "Cold air inlet" to replace the factory gas box of their car.
Most professional mechanics consider these projects to be a lot of marketing hype with no real evidence of horsepower or fuel economy.
That's not what I can decide, though.
What I know is: it's a good idea to check your air filter every 12 months or 12,000 miles.
Many will tell you that you need to change air filters every year, but it's really not true unless you live in a particularly dusty climate.
Most air filters will last longer.
But you check it every year.
Replace the filter if it looks dirty.
Fortunately, it is very easy to change the air filter.
The gas box of the car is one of the easiest to approach components, almost always secured inside by a hose and several clips or clips.
Special tools or skills are not required.
Many people seem to think it is a waste of time to check or replace the air filter because they do not notice the direct benefits of car driving --
Ability afterwards.
There are a lot of logic holes in this argument, mainly because you won't notice the impact of the bad/dirty air filter until all the dirt and particles it enters clog your engine. Spend the $10-
Change your filter.
This is the easiest job in the world to swap. Spark Plugs (
Cost: About $10)
To find out how often you should install a new spark plug on your vehicle, you will need to check your owner's manual.
However, many mechanics would agree that it would be a good idea every 3 years or 36,000 miles.
According to your vehicle, earplugs may be the most suitable repair work for professionals.

Plug with spark.
However, for most spark plugins, especially those with 4-
A very simple repair.
To determine the difficulty of this maintenance project, the best thing you can do is to check out some YouTube videos or DIY guides around Google to see others do the job first.
If it looks like something you can handle, have it.
In general, it only needs a socket and a special gapping "coin" tool, which you can buy for $1 at any car parts store.
If you have previously neglected to replace the earbuds on the car, you may notice a better response when starting the vehicle, and the smoothness/power when driving.
Probably the most explosive. for-your-
In terms of making the old car run better, the buck maintenance project. Fuel Filter (
Cost: About $15)
Fuel filters are cheap maintenance items that many people often overlook.
As the name implies, their purpose is to filter out dirt, rust and other particles in the fuel before it reaches the engine.
Over time, especially in a colder climate, these filters are blocked as fuel tanks deteriorate.
It can cause your engine to run rough without getting the right amount of fuel at the right time.
It is a cheap thing to replace the filter and may solve your problem.
Just like using earbuds, before trying to fix it, look into how it is replaced on your particular vehicle.
On some cars it's as simple as a few bolts, and on others it's a much wider job and it's better to leave it to the store.
Hope this will inspire you to maintain your car better.
Car maintenance feels very rewarding-
There are some very satisfying things to care about and maintain a complex machine.
In a society where everything is thrown away and new cars are purchased, it will feel good to repair the car in person.
