Do you have players in your home who use vintage TV sets?
Would you like to open the dryer with a few clothes?
Are you hoarding old incandescent lamps?
This version of Heat the Heat is for you.
In the first column, we discussed the problem of saving household heat.
In the second column, we looked at the saving of hot water.
We are talking about electrical and electronic products this week.
They are worth your attention because they have an impact together.
They use 17 cents or more electricity in electric-heated homes.
Including: main electrical appliances in kitchen and laundry room. Lights.
Small household appliances and electronic technology.
If your electricity bill last year was $3,000, then you spend $505 a year.
On 2021, after the Musk mouse fell, the price was about $1,010. [
If you miss the previous column, you should know that I am not happy at all with the marcotel falls, and I am doing my best to reduce the electricity bill. ]
When it comes to paying bills, you should also know that your cost will be higher if your appliance is rated by notEnergy Star.
How much do you spend?
To calculate the cost of operating electrical and electronic products, you have several options.
First of all, try a reliable online calculator, such as this provided by the energy use calculator, or this provided by Nova Scotia Power (NSP).
I prefer the NSP website as it keeps the total kWh running for each device you enter.
However, the calculation is based on the price of 15 cents per kWh.
So to see your cost, multiply the total kWh by the cost in your area.
Second, you can also use an energy consumption meter, which is about $35 or less on Amazon.
Or borrow one from your local library.
If you are lucky enough, there is also a library in your area.
According to Canada's natural resources (NRCan)
Six household appliances are used 2,600 KW times a year.
Using the calculator of NSP, my usage is-with Energy-Star-
Rated appliances, that is-was 2,925 kWh.
Change these numbers to reflect apre-
1990 fridge and freezer, increased to 4,701 KW hours.
The annual difference between the two old appliances was $195.
The savings of HouseLet reduce the consumption of major appliances.
An energy-efficient dishwasher running 1 hour a day costs 20 cents a day ($72 a year).
Average total number of frost
Free Energy Star refrigerators and freezers are 3. 0 kWh a day (33 cents)
Compared to old unrated models that can use 8. 8 kWh a day ($1).
Your dryer, assuming it's an energy-efficient model that runs for an hour per load, costs about 33 cents each time it's used.
Let's say you only do it once a second on average, which means you're going to spend $60.
It cost 23 cents to dry clothes last year.
It takes 7 cents to operate the washing machine motor and other electrical functions (0. 66 kWh).
This does not include the cost of heating water.
A typical range of electric power will be used about 756 KW hours ($83)a year.
For £ 2018, you will pay $321 to operate the dishwasher, washing machine, clothes dryer, freezer, stove and refrigerator.
It turns out that 2021, we will pay the same amount as we did in 2000 to use these much less efficient appliances.
Here is a list of actions we can take: replace the old refrigerator while avoiding freezingthrough-door models.
When the dishwasher is full, use them and choose a "smart" cycle without heating and drying.
When the clothes are full, use the clothes dryer and set the timer at the lowest possible time to dry the clothes.
Consider the clothesline.
Transfer the clothes of 45 dryers to the production line, which can be reduced by 135 KW hours from your energy bill. (
Multiply by 50,000 residences of 6.
75 million kilowatt hours or $0.
75 million per year$1. 5 million post-2021).
According to NRCan, lighting uses 4% of its energy in ordinary Canadian homes (
Our model for $120 is $3000).
But the cost of using incandescent lamps will increase by 8-fold.
In 2014, ordinary-style incandescent lamps gradually withdrew from the market in Canada, but some consumers still have incandescent lamps, and you can still buy halogen incandescent lamps (
Floodlights, for example).
These bulbs consume about 10 cents less electricity than the old tungsten filament incandescent lamp, lasting about twice and costing up to four times.
They also burn heat and are in danger of fire.
For ease of comparison, I insist on using the old incandescent lamp in the chart below.
It compares LED, CFL and old incandescent lamps at 22 cents per kWh, after
2021 electricity, 15,000 hours.
The cost compares the operating cost of each bulb15, 0008, 0001, the cost of a 200-hour bulb is $15,000, $4 $5 $16.
25 bulbs for 20 fixtures cost $80 $100 an annual cost of $325 for 1 fixture. 49$3. 88$16.
The cost of 20 fixtures per year is $49. 87$77. 57$322.
44*12 years 3.
Most consumers have switched with incandescent lamps and have seen lower energy costs.
Imagine: 50,000 families replace two 60 w incandescent lamps with leds, which means that the total amount of use has dropped by 6.
38 gigawatts or 76 gigawatts per year.
5 GW in 12 years.
A recent study by the Canadian Ministry of Natural Resources has a gadget (2011)
Say we have 160 more electronic devices in our home today than in 2001.
Given the variety of options, I will limit this section to the examples of the devices you and I choose and how the settings we use affect consumption.
This is an extreme example. Take a high-
Desktop computer with game-
Upgrade the graphics card and the old CRT display and keep iton 24/7.
210 watts per hour, they use 1,840 wattshours a year.
In 2021, you need $405 a year to have fun in the game.
Only two hours per day means 153 KW hours per year. that's $34.
Laptops use 100 watts or less.
If you use it for two hours a day throughout the year and sleep mode is enabled, then in
2021 you spend $16 a year doing your accounting, streaming and reaching out to friends.
Mobile phone use less.
After 2021, you pay $1.
20 charge three mobile phones a year (
Each in an hour).
Plasma TV is a big energy producer in TV industry.
They use twice the wattage of the LCD display.
Especially for larger sizes, the LED screen is equivalent to or more effective than the LCD screen.
For example, a 50-
The inch plasma screen will use 150 W compared to LCD 100 W and LED 57 W.
No matter what model you have, you can use options to enable energy-saving features such as lowering the brightness and actually turning off the screen instead of just switching to sleep mode running the screensaver.
If you have a moment
On TV, it will cost three watts and add $6 a year, so consider unplugging it or turning off the power bar when you don't watch it.
Look at small appliances, these can also bring Energy Star rating.
After 2021, it will cost $20 a year to make toast or dry hair.
The microwave oven costs about $24 a year.
All of this and more information can be found on the energy calculator tool mentioned above, and there are a lot of tips and analysis online.
Gandhi once said that it is important for us as individuals to do nothing, but in any case it is essential that we act.
I think his point is that when you and I and our neighbors work towards a common goal, the critical mass of all our efforts is important.
The government acknowledged that the hydropower development project at the masharat falls was poorly conceived and poorly managed.
Pay for this boondoggle and double the price shock (
And three times the price)
Because electricity comes not only from your pocket and my pocket, but also from our children and their pockets.
No one wants to lie down and take this.
But how do you and I say "no" to power "?
Better not to sacrifice comfort or quality of life?
While these changes do not seem to matter, the sum of all our efforts can add strength to the accountability of energy pricing and the protest of fairness.
Next week, in the last column of this series, we will look at the potential of transferring funds, and we are already putting in alternative transportation, which may help to reduce the cost of kwh, and help to pay off the huge debt that marcotel falls has brought us.
