CNN anchor Sanjay Gupta: After a week's food log, I realized that I was doing something we often do and eating casually.
Often sweets and food are not very good for me and do it in the office.
Now, the truth is, you will find that most of us seriously underestimate how much food we consume on any day.
Write everything down.
This will help make you more responsible. So good luck.
This will summarize things for SGMD.

Alison Keswick.
Host: since half of the people in the United States are suffering from the cold, more than ten people have died in car accidents.
In some places, the wind and cold may drop below 50.
Victor Blackwell.
Moderator: What is the definition of death?
The case in which the doctor believes that Jahi McMath has died in the brain has sparked a debate about who can say that someone is alive or not, and what determines this judgment?
Our debate is ahead.
KOSIK: Also, imagine driving along a major highway and only seeing this fall from the sky.
An emergency landing plane in New York and a miraculous result.
A new day starts now.
Good morning. this is Alison Keswick.
Blackwell: I'm Victor Blackwell.
It was a pleasure to be with you this morning and every morning.
The East Coast is now 8: 00.
Sunday is a new day.
Let's help you from the beginning.
Let's plan your day for you. BLACKWELL:Yes.
If you don't have to go out, don't go out, because temperatures we 've never seen in decades will control most parts of the United States.
Winter has begun.
However, over the past week, 13 people have died in winter weather.
KOSIK: it also caused damage at airports across the country.
More than 1,500 flights were canceled today.
According to Flightware. com.
Blackwell: parts of North Dakota have been buried in snow and a smooth environment.
We can see the temperature drop to minus 30 degrees.
However, it will feel like minus 50 degrees as the wind is cold.
KOSIK: OK, so to let you know how dangerous this weather is, your meat can freeze in 10 minutes as the wind drops to minus 35 degrees.
It only takes five minutes if it drops to minus 50 degrees.
Cold weather warnings appeared everywhere.
Blackwell: states in the Midwest. (Start Video)
KOSIK: ready bonechilling cold.
Behind the snowstorm that hit much of the Midwest and Northeast, air quality in the Arctic will bring the coldest temperatures we 've seen in decades.
Man: It's terrible, you know.
So it's a little inconvenient to walk around.
KOSIK: By Wednesday, nearly half of the country, 0. 14 billion people, will tremble at zero or minus temperatures, which is why the Red Cross warns people to be prepared.
Josh lockwood from Red Cross: you should have a first aid kit at home and a first aid kit in your car.
This is very important if you find yourself having to leave home, or squat for a few days, or get stuck on a highway.
KOSIK: People across the country have accepted the proposal.
Unidentified Woman: I checked out from another grocery store earlier and they asked me if I was preparing for the end of the world.
Corsike: there will be cold at Lambo Stadium.
It is said that the political office match with the San Francisco 49ers will go down in history as the coldest football match ever.
Mark Tauscher, a former Green Bay Packers, said the weather would be a big factor.
Mark taoxue, a former Green Bay Packers: it makes it very difficult.
You know, from the point of view of offensive execution, there are things you can't do.
But both teams have to work this out, you know, you just have to find a way to fix this.
Kosike: the explosion in the Arctic may bring the explosion deep in the South to a single digit.
The weather forecast says Monday in Anchorage, Alaska, will be warmer than Nashville and Atlanta.
While many people will struggle in the coldest week, it's time for others to make some money.
Unidentified male: the broken pipe keeps me doing business.
Unidentified male: in the next few days, you may have a lot of such food when the cold comes.
Man: of course.
The temperature will drop and there will be a lot of work to do for me. (END VIDEO CLIP)
Blackwell: Well, let's go to the Midwest where people are really preparing for dangerous cold temperatures.
We have photos of St here.
Louis, live picture
You see it's snowing.
There are only a few cars on the road.
It is now 7: 00 in the morning. m.
Maybe that's why on Sunday.
KOSIK: the visibility there doesn't look very good.
Blackwell: it doesn't look good at all. KOSIK:No.
Blackwell: it feels like 17 degrees now.
At least five states have been warned of winter storms.
By the end of the day, there could be 1 feet of snow in Chicago.
Let's invite Meteorologist Alexander Steele to open this up at CNN's inclement weather center.
Many things have happened all over the country.
Alexandra Steele, ATS meteorologist: That's right.
So I think we have a good question to post to the audience this morning. BLACKWELL:OK.
Steele: So you have 50 yards of seating in Rambo today.
The cold will be under 20, 30, 40 seconds. Do you go?
Blackwell: No, I'm not going. Would you go? KOSIK:(INAUDIBLE)I'm going.
Alison, are you there?
Oh, I'm not going. No way.
Steele: Okay. KOSIK:(INAUDIBLE).
Steele: Victor won't go either. BLACKWELL:No.
Steele: I'm not surprised.
Blackwell: No, I'm not going. STEELE:OK. BLACKWELL:No.
Steele: Okay.
I'm just curious, hey, what do you think if you're outside?
The best seats in the house, you get them for free, do you go or not?
Okay, you can take them away and sell them, but let's just say you're going?
Why do we see this, right?
Why make a decision at Rambo?
This is because part of this polar vortex, the coldest air in the northern hemisphere, the temperature and air we haven't seen in more than 20 years, so some dry air is coming.
OK, let's show you how low it will be and how it will move across the country, down south and down East. This is today.
Dulus's high today is 32 degrees lower than the average and 15 degrees lower than the average; Minneapolis --
So your point is right?
We are 20 to 40 degrees lower than where we should be.
On Monday, Indianapolis was nearly 50 degrees lower than the average, or 13 degrees negative. St.
Louis, single digit
Note that these are high temperatures.
Then, as we move toward Tuesday, the meat of this Arctic air will reach the Southeast.
Atlanta, the highest of 25, the lowest of single digits.
Atlanta has not reached single digits since 2003, that is, the recorded single digits, so in many ways this will undoubtedly be historic.
Temperatures in Anchorage, Alaska, will reach 34 degrees on Monday.
It will be colder in Chicago.
You can say that, right? Colder in St.
Louis, only 1 in height.
In Atlanta, Georgia, it's colder than Anchorage or even Nashville in Alaska.
So you understand that a little bit.
So we will have an incredible cold air, but it has a different element for the Northeast.
We will see such a sharp drop in temperature.
It rained on Monday.
But take a look at the drop, the high point in Boston from 50 to 19.
New York, down from 50 to 13, guys.
In addition to the cold, we have snow to tell you, for Chicago and St. Louis.
I will tell you how much money they will get and when.
Blackwell: Okay, Alexandra. Thank you.
KOSIK: at such a low temperature, there will really be all kinds of problems with your home and your car. . .
Blackwell: you can feel the coming of the draft.
Of course, this is bad news when your pipe is frozen.
KOSIK: Let's go to Alexandra Stadium in New York this morning and there's something you can do now to avoid future problems ---
Good morning, Alexandra.
Alexandra Field, CNN: Good morning, Alison.
You will definitely want to do these things now.
We know that when we talk about such a low temperature, it's a big problem to have a low body temperature and a freezing injury.
So of course you want--
I want to stay inside.
But before you stop, as we sit outside, you should take some steps to make your home safer, safer, and of course more comfortable. (Start Video)
Field: It's not just cold, it's very cold.
What problems might people start to see in the next few days?
Robert LEOPOLDI, LEOPOLDI hardware: Well, we 've been dealing with frozen storage tubes.
This is always a problem.
This morning, a woman called to say that her tube was frozen. FIELD (voice-over)
: Below freezing point will cause you a lot of problems.
LEOPOLDI: So this is the insulation and you can put it around the pipe in case it's cold.
FIELD: make a small plan.
Robert Leopoldi of the Brooklyn Leopoldi hardware company recommends frequent use of water as the temperature drops and prior protection of the pipes.
We have these cables that you plug in.
You run along the tube.
Then you can isolate the pipe.
Its function is to keep the heat on the pipe.
Field: the electric heater is being dug up at the hardware store in New York City.
They can add some warmth to your house without letting your stove overwork. (on camera)
Give me your best inside information.
What are the really helpful things we don't want to do?
LEOPOLDI: Well, the best thing to do is insulation.
Insulation is the best thing.
This will save energy and money. FIELD (voice-over)
: Spraying foam can do the job quickly.
LEOPOLDI: It's just to fill in any gaps.
It can be around the door, around the mold, around the pipe, just to fill up any little space.
Field: plastic sheets for ventilation windows are available in various sizes. (on camera)
We look at 0. 14 billion people. . .
Man: Yes. FIELD: . . .
At zero temperature.
What a big problem is this?
Lockwood: The Red Cross has launched thousands of volunteers across the country to prepare for the event.
We are working very hard to send a message that people can stay safe in cold weather. FIELD (voice-over)
: Due to historical lows in the Midwest, temperatures are expected to be below zero in the South and Northeast, and the Red Cross will focus on the dangers of driving. A few tips.
Pack a shovel and dig yourself out.
Also, there's sand on your hands.
Bring a blanket and avoid driving without a fully charged phone.
Don't forget the extrafreeze.
In order to fit your driveway to record lows, skip rock salt, says Leopoldi.
More is worth buying.
LEOPOLDI: it melts at a lower temperature and does not crack on the sidewalk.
It will not leave a white mark on it. (END VIDEO TAPE)
Field: The Red Cross says the fire has increased as temperatures began to fall.
So, of course, you know, there is some common sense here that needs to be put there to remind people that if you have a space heater or candle, you need to keep an eye on these things-Alison.
KOSIK: some great suggestions.
Thank you, Alexandra Field.

Blackwell: Three people were lucky to be alive after landing on a busy New York highway this morning.
Somehow the pilot of the small plane, an engine, stayed calm and avoided the driver, but crashed safely near the snow side of the highway.
Authorities are still investigating the exact cause of the aircraft engine failure.

Sunlen, this is a long list and we have a short show.
But how much can Congress do?
CNN correspondent sunlen serfaty: Well, Victor, I'm not going to bet there will be a breakthrough year because it's an election year after all.
But last year, it reached a compromise on the budget agreement and finally got a high rating.
The White House hopes this will give some momentum to Congress.

Corsik: New York Governor Andrew Cuomo unexpectedly relaxed the state's restrictions on marijuana.
Democratic governors have long opposed the legalization of marijuana.
But the New York Times reported that he had changed his mind, at least in terms of medical marijuana.
However, he is expected to be strictly restricted.
The governor plans to announce the news in a state speech on Wednesday.
Now I'm on the phone with Sue Craig.
She is the president of the Albany branch of the New York Times. Good morning, Sue.
Susan Craig, president of the Albany branch of the New York Times: Hey, good morning.
So, let me know first, why do you think the governor has changed his position?
How much does this possible potential income relate to a change in this view?
I think income is secondary.
I don't think it will be a big generator in New York state.
I think it is even more important for New York Governor Andrew Cuomo that he opposes this practice.
He has served as minister of justice for many years.
I think he is more concerned about the possibility of abuse.
Over time, I think he has just evolved and he has seen that there may be some good things to do, or it can be done in a controlled way.
New York has launched the product in a very limited way.
There will be 20 hospitals in the state.
This will be a very limited disease, cancer and glaucoma are two.
These are actually prescribed by law. KOSIK:OK.
As a result, the use of medical marijuana has passed the state council many times, but has stalled in the Senate.
The governor passed the legislation. . .
Yes, it's interesting. It's a very --
This is a very political issue in New York.
It has been stagnant in the Senate.
So Governor Cuomo chose to repeal a law that allowed him to do so.
So that he can move around at the convention.
KOSIK: Well, then the governor's plan to distribute marijuana in the state is still very limited.
So, you know, who benefits from medical marijuana and who is still banned?
Craig: Well, yes--
You know, right now, the country is looking at Colorado and seeing people queuing up on the street to buy marijuana.
We will certainly not see this here.
I mean, it's going to be very--
The two diseases mentioned in the law are glaucoma and cancer, and patients who can use it.
Only distributed in these 20 hospitals.
Anyone else who can use it, anyone else with a disease, must be approved by the Ministry of Health.
KOSIK: Let's ask you, how much pressure do you think the governor gave in to the recent Medical Marijuana Act massage in neighboring New Jersey?
I mean, you can't say that things are isolated.
So I think I will see it as part of it.
And I think, you know, he was led. -
There are some lobbying groups calling to state their case.
So I think it's a combination of things.
And, you know, it may not be a coincidence, you know, we woke up this week in the election year in New York.
He will take part in the 2014 election, which is a matter of great concern to voters.
So I think he can do something in line with his more liberal social norms.
He came out to support issues like gay marriage, which is legal in New York, and you know, when he was in this election, it was a fairly popular issue in New York.
KOSIK: Do you think this opens the door for relaxing restrictions on cannabis use in New York?
You know, I know there's a limit now, but you know it once they open the door. . .
Craig: Well, I think people are thinking about this, and I think we have a long way to go from this.
I think he is willing to give it a try and see how it goes.
But I think this is-
You can't say it's not a step. It's a --
We have many steps to go in order to achieve this goal.
Okay, Sue Craig from the New York Times.
"Thank you very much for your time.
Craig: Thank you.

It was cold for several days to get the stadium ready.
Blackwell: Jared Greenberg is joining us now to learn more about the Bleacher report this morning.
You can get the stadium ready, but are people ready? We'll see --we'll find out.
Blegreenberg, BLEACHER Reports: Well, they have experience.
Four of the coldest 10 games in NFL history were played at Rambo.
Now, we 've learned from our weather department that it's not going to be one of the coldest games because the real feeling of temperature will be a mild six degrees. Enjoy that. BLACKWELL:Yes.
Greenberg: in the playoffs against 49 people today, the crew are trying to unfreeze the iconic Rambo Stadium.
Now, on the sidelines, most people are most concerned about ---
That's a priority, right, Alison? KOSIK:It is. GREENBERG:--
Keep the beer tap from freezing.
KOSIK: go get the beer.
Greenberg: now they have this problem back in December, so it's always important that they learn from their mistakes.
It was not until the last moment that they would close the door to the franchise.
They also brought some heaters, which is very important.
You don't want the beer to be too hot, though.
The bathroom is probably the warmest place. KOSIK:Oh.
Greenberg: The bathroom adds insulation.
Imagine what these lines will look like now? KOSIK:(INAUDIBLE).

Blackwell: A teenager who was declared brain dead after her tonsils surgery could be removed from her ventilator on Tuesday.
So now the case is back to a bigger debate about what exactly death is. (
Business break)
Now, welcome back. this is Alison corsik.
Blackwell: I'm Victor Blackwell.
Let's start with five things you need to know about your new day.
Keswick: the number one bad winter weather that causes headaches for the people in the country.
More than 1,600 flights have been canceled today.
In the Midwest, temperatures are expected to drop below zero, and more cold means more snow.
Places like Chicago can see up to 1 feet by the end of the day.
Blackwell: Second, the police charged a New York man with hate crimes in connection with seven knockout attacks in Brooklyn, seven of them.
This is a sketch of the suspect the police are looking.
Now Barry Baldwin is facing six counts of assault, a hate crime, and a number of others.
The attack happened to women in a predominantly Jewish community.
If you haven't seen it yet, the knockout is the video when one tries to pour a stranger with one punch.
KOSIK: at least three car bombs exploded in several parts of Baghdad, killing 12 people.
Dozens more were injured.
Meanwhile, in Washington, Senator John McCain and Lindsey Graham accused the White House of recent violence between Iraqi forces and al-Qaida --
Related militants.
Senators say the government has decided to withdraw from the United States. S.
The Army caused violence.
Blackwell: Fourth, Secretary of State John Kerry says there is very serious work to be done on the Middle East peace agreement.
Earlier this week, Kerry traveled to Jordan and Saudi Arabia to meet with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanya and Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas.
This is Kerry's ninth visit to the region since taking office.

After making fun of a family photo, Perry tearfully apologized to Mitt Romney.
The host caused a media storm after she was with her.

The old girl who was declared brain dead could be removed from the ventilator.
Jahi McMath has been in this state since December 9, when she developed complications in the Orlando Children's Hospital due to surgical removal of the tonsils-
It's in Oakland, of course. it's California.
Now, the family is having a vicious legal battle with the hospital, which wants to remove her from the ventilator.
At the heart of the problem is the definition of death because Jahi's family insists that her daughter is still alive as long as her heart beats.
Two professors of medical ethics discussed the issue with us and their views were very different.
Robert Veatch, from Georgetown University, supports the legal definition of brain death. And Dr.
Robert Truog, from Harvard Medical School, supports the opposition that people with brain death but heart beating are still alive.
So, let me start with the basic questions, and we will be working with each of you in the next five or six minutes.
Doctor, Professor, Professor, I started with you, is Jahi McMath dead?
Robert Welch, professor of medical ethics at Georgetown University: according to California law, she must have died legally.
In fact, in every state of the Federation, she would have died legally, except in some cases in New Jersey, where she might be classified as living.
The question is how do we treat a small number of people, perhaps 10% of doctors, philosophers and ordinary people in the United States, who continue to think that death should be measured by the loss of heartbeat or blood circulation? BLACKWELL:Dr.
Truog, I'm also asking you, is Jahi McMath dead?
I would also like you to consider that most medical communities believe what Professor Veatch said just now, once brain activity ---
This is a complete stop. it is legal to stop the person completely. DR.
Robert trug, professor of medical ethics at Harvard Medical School: Professor Veatch is absolutely right. in our country and most of the world, for decades, people who meet these standards have been considered legally dead.
There is no doubt about this.
I think the approach taken by the hospital is very reasonable and they think that since she has legally died, they have no obligation to continue to provide her with life support.
The place about debate is the difference between the legal definition of such death and a more biological or medical understanding of death.
Some of us would argue that like this young girl, parents are physically alive, just like you and me, warning that she will always be unconscious.
She will never wake up and she will never be able to breathe without a ventilator.
Now, you know, the difference here is a bit pointless for most people, because they would say, if--
If I ever lose consciousness and never wake up, why am I still alive?
But for this family in Auckland, I think it's important that the difference is--
That's why we have this debate.
Blackwell: I asked you, Professor Veatch, you wrote this article. ed on CNN.
Its title is "let the parents decide whether the teen is dead or not.
"If there is a medical definition of brain death, and most states accept the medical definition as a legal definition, why should parents be allowed to make this decision?
So why should parents be allowed to make decisions in this case or in any other case?
VEATCH: there is no exact medical definition yet. In fact, Dr.
Truog notes that for medical reasons, some doctors continue to support the concept of heart or circular death as the basis for the declaration of death.
There are generally accepted laws.
The problem is that there is no scientific way to resolve this dispute.
This is really an argument about philosophy or religion, if you like.
So even if I like a version of the brain
I acknowledge that this dispute is based on values and philosophy, and therefore, I also support respect for those who believe that it is only when the heart is irreversible to stop pumping blood, the arrangement of the views of the people whose death should be declared.
Blackwell: if this is a professional, there's a problem here. life and pro-
Choose a discussion. Dr.
Truog if a family can decide when a person dies or what is the definition of death, then can the family also make a decision on the other end, on the other end of life, when a person, children should live. what is the definition of life?
TRUOG: Yes, well, I'm not sure if it would be helpful to try and parallel with the abortion debate here.
Blackwell: Well, I'm not doing it. -
I'm not using the word abortion.
I will read it directly to you from the family statement.
We have strong beliefs and beliefs. -(CROSSTALK)TRUOG:Ok. BLACKWELL:--
We believe that in this country, parents have the right to make decisions about the existence of their children.
"That's Jahi McMath's.
So if they think they should be able to live her on religious grounds, or they don't believe she's dead, should these same religious beliefs be applied to discussions about whether they have the right to determine when a person is alive or when life begins?
TRUOG: Yes, no, I think as Professor Veatch said, I think these are very personal views related to one's philosophy, and I believe in our society, we should have as much freedom as possible to allow people to make their own choices about these things.
Blackwell: Professor Veatch, your last sentence, do you believe it is possible? Because this is what the family believes, at least it is possible, from what you know about the case, that she will have some recovery or recovery in the future? Is it possible?
VEATCH: No, I don't think there is a chance that her brain function will recover, or that she will be able to recover consciousness and even breathe from the ventilator.
Nevertheless, I think the family should have the right to choose the heart
Definition of death.
According to her parents, Jahi may be alive in New Jersey.
I think this is a good law that should also be passed by the other 49 states in the District of Colombia.
Blackwell: OK, Professor Robert Welch. Robert Truog.
Thank you very much.
The dialogue will continue, of course.
TRUOG: Thank you.
Blackwell: We will keep an eye on the story. Thank you.
KOSIK: The wait is almost over and Downton manor is back in the United States. S.
TV screen tonight
After the break, you will hear from the executive producer of the show the heartbreaking cliffhanger of last season and some new members of the star --studded cast. (
Business break)
KOSIK: it's finally here.
At 9: 00 tonight, in the eastern part of PBS, count Grantham, his family and their servants downstairs returned to the United States. S.
British blockbuster Downton manor premiered in the fourth quarter.
"The audience has been mourning for Matthew's sudden death at the last moment of last season.
Now, they will be pushed back into the life of his sad family with new characters and dramatic new storylines at the beginning of the roaring 20 s.
I had the opportunity to talk to Liz troughbridge, the executive producer of the show, about how it all unfolded after the actor Dan Stevens left. (
Start Video Editing)
Liz troughbridge, executive producer of Downton manor: of course, none of us want Dan to go, but at the same time we understand that he has promised three seasons.
For him, this is a good opportunity to work in the United States. S.
This is what he always wanted to do.
So of course we know the way ahead. -
We knew he was going about a year ago because Julian had to write him out.
We would like to give him a proper suggestion, and of course so for us in the United States. K.
It means Christmas.
So we had a lot of trouble at Christmas.
But we just think we have. -
This is a big story.
We can't do it at other times except for the end.
But, you know, about these things-
These stories are that when you lose a beloved character, it does give you a chance to learn more about them and develop them with Mary, so that's what we are, of course, Mary is still mourning, but gradually you will see her ---
She found herself again and it made us give up-
Opened a whole new world for her.
KOSIK: OK season 4 introduces the first black character of Downton manor, Gary Carr, who plays jazz singer Jack Ross.
"How does he change the dynamics of the show with 1920 of new modern information?
TRUBRIDGE: Well, I mean, it's so cute to be able to do this year after year, because of course, when I was in my 20 s, there was a huge change in society. -
Great social change, fashion change and music.
So the music and dance in season 4 is very special and lovely. KOSIK:And --
Tonight, fans of Downton Abbey in the United States can finally start over.
We know that season 5 is going on.
But I asked you this.
Can you give an American audience? S.
A little peace of mind--
Will Downton last forever?
I think it would be interesting if we did.
Because God knows how old some of these characters will be at the end.
But it will last for a while. This is for sure.
KOSIK: What do you say to an audience who hasn't seen Downton Abbey yet?
Missed all the seasons, can they go in?
I mean, what advice do you have for people who haven't seen it yet?
I think ---
I think one of Julian's writing skills is ---
You know there's a lot of layers and if you join in right now, I think you'll get started soon.
You will miss some (AUDIO GAP)
Obviously, but I don't think it's impossible. -
Can follow completely. (CROSSTALK)
I want to ask you soon.
You know, you're very concerned about the details of history, but, very few of your audience really tend to know if China is set up correctly or if the ladies skirt is length-appropriate.
Why is it important to make these small details?
For me, I think-
Like, you know, I don't know much about how a great, wonderful painting is done, but I know, I don't know how I know, but I know what's good and what's bad.
I think so.
I think, if it's right, there's something that makes you real. KOSIK:Ok.
Liz Trubridge of Downton manor thank you very much for your time.
We look forward to watching tonight.
I hope you like it.
Thank you very much.
Blackwell: a new day will come-
The new year, the old battle.
Congress is launching a 2014 campaign to extend unemployment benefits.
But anything will change for this country. 3 million long-Long-term unemployment?
Next, we will investigate this. (
Business break)
KOSIK: it's time to take a look at some of the big events of the coming week.
Congress resumed its work on Monday.
There are many items on their agenda to list.
But the suspicious difference called do-
There is no Congress, no one is really sure what they will do in the new year.
Deadline for Tuesday night--
A judge ruled 13-year-
The old girl who has been declared brain dead can be removed from life support.
The family believed that Jahi McMath was still alive and tried to transfer her to another hospital before it was too late.
In addition, President Obama held an event at the White House to urge Congress to extend unemployment benefits in the United States. 3 million long-
Long-term unemployment.
On Thursday, set your DVRs to CNN at 9 in the evening. m.
On Thursday night, CNN premiered a chilling documentary, the only survivor, in the east, about the survivor's crime, the only surviving person after the plane crash.
Then on Sunday, January 12, 70 Golden Globes--
Anne Boller and Tina Faye will host the film and television awards again.
In addition, we will receive a new employment report and new mortgage rules this week.
Zain Asher looks forward to the week on Wall Street.
Zain asher, cnn business correspondent: Hi Victor and Alison.
This is the first full trading week in 2014.
Superstitious investors will keep a close eye on stocks, which may give us an idea of how the market will operate for the rest of the year.
The idea is that if the S & P 500 index rises in the first five days of January, it will rise throughout the year.
But it's not just a belief.
According to the Stock Trader Yearbook, nearly 85% of the time is correct.
Most analysts do expect that this year's bulls will continue to run, just a little less enthusiastic than in 2013.
But there may be some changes in the market this week.
The monthly employment report was released on Friday.
Analysts expect an increase of 190,000 jobs in December.
A good number, of course, but not enough to lower the unemployment rate. -
The current price is 7% and it is expected to stay there.
Finally, the new mortgage rule came into effect on Friday.
Banks must ensure that monthly mortgage payments are affordable and low-file loans are no longer allowed.
The change in demand is due to Dodd-
In 2010, Frank passed Wall Street reform.
Victor and Alison, that's what's going to happen on Wall Street this week.
Blackwell: OK, Zain Asher. thank you.
Corseck: it's time for us to have a political intuition check with canddy Crawley.
This weekend, President Obama has called on Congress again to extend long-term unemployment insurance.
Semester outside work-
The new year, the old battle.
What is the possibility of this happening in 2014?
CNN host Candy Crawley: I think this could happen in the first place.
The term extension, perhaps three months, has a proposal on the Senate side that it has a Republican and a Democratic supporter.
Republicans have a bit of a disagreement over why they are opposed to extending long-term benefits.
Long-term unemployment-
No work for six months or more
Some Republicans say it's okay for me to extend these hours.
Regular benefits unless they are paid.
Let's find somewhere else in the budget to cut our spending or add new revenue.
This is unlikely to come from Republicans, but there are still ways to pay for it.
Other Republicans say, look, long.
Long-term unemployment just keeps people out of work until they run out and then they go for a job, so it's kind of encouraging things.
Others say, wait, if the economy is better, why do we have to do urgent things for a long time?
Period of unemployment relief?
So there are various reasons.
I guess--
In this group, Democrats can find enough Republicans to continue to pass it.
This year is also the election year.
Democrats believe that even if the election year doesn't pass, they are very focused on winning because they don't want to portray Republicans as they don't care.
They don't even offer benefits to people who have been out of work for a year ---
That kind of thing.
So it has two policies, but Democrats think they can also take part in political activities for some election years.
So, I think there are a few reasons why you might see it, but not without some fighting.
All right, Crowley. thank you. we'll see it. CROWLEY:Thanks.
Corsike: stay here with Candy Crawley for the "State of the Union ".
It starts at the top of the hour--9:00a. m.
Right east of CNN.
Blackwell: Hey, if you wake up at a mild or warm temperature, it's good for you, the rest of us are frozen.
On the new day, temperatures are still rising in most parts of the country. Stay with us. (
Business break)
Snowflakes, free fall.
Good morning, St.
Louis, sunny skies, but I think they're behind the clouds somewhere there?
It's about 8 points off there. Louis --
The high point of 24, the low point of minus 9. KOSIK:Balmy. BLACKWELL:Yes. And St.
Louis is not the only city to prepare for record temperatures.
In North Dakota people are expected to feel below 50-
Thank you for this cruel cold.
Keswick: at least five states have been warned of winter storms.
Let's invite meteorologist Alexandra Steele at CNN's weather center.
Can you tell us some details of the cold ice?
Alexandra Steele, ams meteorologist: You know, St.
Louis, look at those pictures. That's snow.
We have prepared winter storm warning for you, St. Louis.
You have at least 5 to 8 inch.
This is the quadrant we focus on.
We have a few stories about the weather.
First, the new snow we set up could be as high as 12 inch.
Of course, we will have a polar, Arctic explosion here in about 20 years.
First of all, let's talk about the story of snow.
Detroit, Chicago, St.
Louis, the snow will be seen again today and tonight.
Today, the same is true for Detroit, Indy, Cincinnati, Chicago, where snow is the biggest in the south, and not so much in the north and west.
This is a scene from south to east.
The snow is over when we go tomorrow morning and all the moisture moves east, but Boston, New York, it's going to be a Rainer, not a skier.
So, look at the total, you can see some of us in the Midwest, plus the arrival of the cold, very impressive.
It will be tough days.
Alexandra Steele, thank you. STEELE:Sure.
OK, it's a must-see here. it's very timely.
A man built his own remote-controlled snow blower.
Yes, this is the invention of Aaron Macon.
He said he built it so he could clean the driveway without leaving his comfortable home.
But what I want to know is he out there?
Because if I could do it, as if I looked through the window, I would be fine;
But if I'm going out-
KOSIK: Come on, there is a real, just sense of accomplishment by making your own work. Come on.
Yes, I see. I get it.
KOSIK: the timing is very good especially if.
He is lucky this week.
Fort Wayne, Indiana, has more than 7 inch snow. You are right.
It would be one in there--
Blackwell: it's much easier.
Look at the huge sinkhole in Hawaii. It triggered --
Triggered by rain
You see this hole now.
We will see that hole when the camera moves again.
The white pickup truck collapsed inside.
Surprisingly, the driver climbed out and was taken to the hospital with only a few injuries and minor injuries.
She said the road swallowed her.
She was lucky to get out of that hole.
KOSIK: You know, those sinkholes are huge, but it's amazing that they just seem to pop up.
Blackwell: Again, the advice is, don't drive through the water because you think you know the way.
However, this road may not be under you.
KOSIK: Okay.
Thank you for watching today.
Blackwell: the "State of the Union" with Candy Crawley begins now.
