Claire Coleman updated on Sunday's email: at 15: 49 on November 13, 2011, the Fraser laser treatment provided by a dermatologist was hailed as the most effective non-surgical anti-
Aging Therapy in recent years.
For the face, face, and back of the hand, it delivers laser energy to the skin, but leaves a network of undamaged skin between the two, and is thought to do everything from eliminating pigmentation to promoting collagen and plump skin.
But pay up to £ 4,000 in full
Facial care is too expensive for most of us.
This is part of the reason why Solta Medical, the company behind Fraxel, has partnered with the electronics giant Philips to develop home laser devices.
Known as ReAura, it has just been launched in Space NK, and although it is cheaper than clinical treatment, it still costs up to £ 799.
I am generally skeptical about home equipment that claims to replicate professional treatment.
In my opinion, they are either strong enough to cause damage, or too weak to give decent results, so you 'd better do some preparation for what's real.
However, the device sounds impressive.
ReAura uses technologies that are very similar to Fraxel, but at lower power levels this makes it safer and means it can be used more frequently.
There are three advantages to clinical Fraxel treatment, the lowest being Fraxel Re: fine for pigmentation, fine lines and skin surface repair.
A spokesman for Philips told me: "reaura may be the best compared to the professional Fraxel Re: fine laser.
Although no direct comparative studies have been conducted, we tend to believe that similar results can be obtained after multiple treatments.
In one trial, 64 women used this device that looked like a small hairdryer, twice a week for 12 weeks, and then independent dermatologists evaluated the photos before and after.
According to dermatologists, Philips has more than 80 women with smoother, more uniform skin and less fine lines.
Dominic gigert, 57, is a sales and marketing manager in Kent.
As advised by Philips, I asked her to try ReAura and use it twice a week for eight weeks.
What I worry about most is uneven pigmentation.
I spent a lot of time in the sun.
"And my wrinkles," she explained . "
"I want to try to get rid of some and bring some definitions back to my chin.
A month later, Dominic believes his skin will change.
"It looks tighter and smoother," she told me . "
Most importantly, I feel much better.
At the end of eight weeks, she was happy with the results.
It may sound scary to use a laser, she says, but you can't pick it up from the shelf.
They show you how to use it, which is a preliminary consultation.
Using it is definitely a learning curve.
You have to put it on the skin at a certain angle, otherwise it won't work, but once I get the hang of it, I can finish my whole face in 20 minutes.
It did initially hurt a bit and after a few hours the skin turned red so I did it at night.
But like a gym.
No pain, no gain.
My skin feels, elastic, tighter around my chin, less sun
Damaged and overall better so I even used less cosmeticup than I was.
"Dr. Sam Bunting, a cosmetic dermatologist, agreed that he checked Dominic before and after.
"There seems to be some minor changes in several areas, which, in general, are added to lighter and brighter skin;
"Pigmentation has subsided and the skin feels firmer and Fuller," she explained . ".
"These changes are not as dramatic as you can see from the clinical treatment of flassel, but they may improve further if Dominic continues to use ReAura.
I also asked Nick mizanowski.
Before Sinclair at the beauty Imaging Studio in London used the Visia machine-and-
After a photo of Dominic's skin
The machine's software evaluates and scores different aspects of skin health and then tells you what your score is compared to your peers.
The data showed that the skin of the Dominique improved significantly in three of the seven areas evaluated by the machine --UV damage;
Red areas such as spider veins;
Bacterial secretions that cause acne.
Philips recommends two to four weeks off every eight weeks.
A week's treatment cycle to prevent the skin from becoming too sensitive, but there is no reason not to use it all year round.
Dominic plans to do so and would like to see further improvements in her skin.
But for anyone considering a purchase, she has a warning.
Don't expect miracles, it won't leave you for 20 years.
For me, it's a gradual, subtlebut-
The obvious changes add up to the general appearance of the wellbeing.
It seems to me that this is a worthwhile investment.
