Released By Mark Prigg: EDT 15: 23 on February 26, 2014 | update: EDT 11: 33 on March 17, 2014, Peugeot has revealed plans to start selling its first air-powered car next year.
Based on the Peugeot 208, it will combine an ordinary engine with a brand new system running on compressed air.
The company says cars can reduce gasoline costs by 80% while driving in cities.
The system works by using an ordinary internal combustion engine, a special hydraulic system and a compressed cylinder adapted to the gearbox, as well as storing and releasing energy.
This allows it to run in gasoline or air, or a combination of the two.
The air power will only be used in urban use, with an automatic start-up speed of less than 43 mph and a usable time of \"60-80\" in urban driving \".
By 2020, the company predicts, cars travel an average of 117 miles per gallon.

Use all the energy normally lost when slowing down and braking.
The motor and pump are located in the engine compartment, supplied by a compressed air tank below the car, operating in parallel with the exhaust unit.
The revolutionary new \"hybrid air\" engine system is a breakthrough for hybrid cars because expensive batteries are no longer needed.
Cars with hybrid air will be about £ 1,000 cheaper than current hybrid cars.
Over the past two years, 100 elite scientists and engineers have been working in the air.

These will appear in everyday cars.
Peugeot released its prototype yesterday and plans to launch a small car model like 208 in the first place.
The company said that, in addition to being more eco-friendly and running at a lower cost, the air system would not create additional dangers in collisions.
Motorists will never risk running out of compressed air late at night on driverless country roads, as cars will be equipped with advanced artificial brains to ensure automatic replenishment.
The air will automatically compress and decompress as the car accelerates and slows down.
